'LIMITLESS' Opportunities with Grayson County DECA

The 2017-2018 DECA Officer Action Team met this summer at the Grayson County Technology Center for Leadership Day to prepare for the upcoming year by setting goals, discussing roles of the officers and planning events for chapter projects.

In keeping with this year’s national theme, “Limitless,” DECA members will be involved in activities that showcase their marketing and entrepreneurial abilities, improve public speaking skills and help our community through an array of community-oriented service projects. Members will plan activities as they watch their personal growth evolve and make them better prepared for college and a career. With DECA, the possibilities for success are “Limitless.”

DECA’s program of work for the upcoming year includes raising awareness and money for Muscular Dystrophy Association (MDA) summer camp at Camp Courageous, and other medical needs for those with MDA.

MDA Camp is a week-long residential camp, with a complete medical facility providing a fun and safe atmosphere which provides special needs campers who have the most serious medical conditions with the chance to participate in swimming, bowling, art/crafts, cooking, fishing, or take center stage in a talent show. This amazing facility is available FREE OF CHARGE as it relies on donations to fund its operations.

To benefit MDA, the Miss Twin Lakes Pageant will be held on August 11, 2017 at Grayson County Middle School. The annual Bake Sale will be held September 2 at Walmart from 8:30 a.m. to 1 p.m.

A Creative Marketing project is underway to assist the Rough River Corp of Engineers with the Blue Ways initiative. DECA members have assisted with signage and promotion of the established Blue Way Trails. Additionally, our chapter is involved in a community service project to support individuals and families that are dealing with medical hardships in Grayson County. DECA is partnering with Zeta Chi Sororities on these efforts.

Are you ready to take advantage of the limitless opportunities that DECA has for you this year? The DECA Officer Team is hosting a DECA Cookout on Friday August 4 at the Grayson County Technology Center from 5:3O-7:00 pm. All students interested in the marketing program, DECA or Jr. DECA are invited to join us for an afternoon of games, fellowship and food! We look forward to spending the afternoon with you and answering any questions you might have!

We are very excited to provide the DECA experience to middle school students. Mrs. Ashley Johnson leads our GCMS Jr. DECA chapter. During Ms. Johnson’s classes, students can learn about marketing concepts and participate in hands-on DECA projects.
