(LOUISVILLE, Ky) The National Weather Service says this summer has been Louisville's hottest ever on record.

The weather service says the average temperature from June through August was 82.5 degrees, a full 1 1/2-degrees higher than in 1936, the previous hottest summer.

The Courier-Journal reports that is also 6 degrees above normal for the three-month time span.

In addition, the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration says Louisville has had more than 80 days with above-average high temperatures this summer, more than any other city in the United States.

Nathan Foster, a meteorologist with the weather service, said the main reason for the extreme heat has been high-pressure systems that lingered over the Ohio Valley.
