At Thursday night’s Grayson County School Board meeting, Clarkson Principal Erika Devore recognized several students for outstanding academic achievement.

The first group honored was several Kindergarten through fifth grade students who scored in the 94th percentile in both reading and math testing. The second set of students was recognized for displaying significant growth and improvement in testing.

All of the students were presented with a Certificate of Achievement.

Grayson County High School seniors Robbie Hayes and Rachel Hunt were awarded the $1,000 First Degree College Scholarship for being the first members of their family to attend college.

Hayes, who was on hand for the award, said he plans to study to become a paramedic.

Board business

Board members voted to continue participating in the Community Eligibility Provision  for the 2017-2018 school year; which allows all students in the district to receive breakfast and lunch free of charge.

In other board business, the body approved a bid for a Gas Combi Oven for the middle school. A low bid of almost $ was submitted by C&T Design.

And lastly, Superintendent Doug Robinson said that the last day of this school year will be May 24.
