As K105 first reported on Thursday, the Grayson County Middle School-Based Decision Making Council hired long-time middle school band director Gary Parker as its new principal.

The 46-year-old Parker replaces Jim Blain who left the middle school to become principal of the Grayson Count Technology Center.

Parker was first hired by Grayson County Schools in 1995 as the Grayson County High School Band Director after spending two years at Metcalfe County High School.

According to Grayson County Schools, in 1996, Parker began working with the 8th grade band at the middle school, in addition to his duties at GCHS. In 2002, Parker became Co-Director of Bands at the high school, a position he held until the end of the 2002-2003 school year when he resigned to concentrate on his job as GCMS Band Director.

Parker is a 1988 graduate of Logan County High School. He received his Bachelor’s Degree in Music Education from Kentucky Wesleyan College in 1992, and earned a Master’s Degree in Music Education from the University of Illinois at Urbana the following year.

He’s married to Tonya Parker, a teacher at Wilkey Elementary School. They have three sons.
