Wednesday night at 5:00, the Grayson County Sheriff’s Office, Kentucky State Police, Falls of Rough Fire Department and EMS responded to the intersection of Hwy 54 and Hwy 79, in Short Creek, on the report of a collision between a semi-truck and dump truck.

Upon arriving at the scene, Deputy Taylor Logsdon and Trooper Jared Clemons found that an RC Cola semi-truck, being driven south on Hwy 79 by Josh Gossett, of Sacramento (McLean Co.), drove through the intersection after stopping at a flashing red light. Gossett said he did not see the dump truck.

The dump truck, being driven east on Hwy 54 by Thomas Clemons, of McDaniels, was unable to stop before the two vehicles collided in the intersection.

Both trucks left the roadway, traveling between a utility pole and concrete bridge, and down a steep 15-foot embankment and into a creek.

Clemons, who was extracted from the dump truck by EMS and Falls of Rough FD personnel, suffered a severe gash to the top of his head, along with other injuries, and was transported to Twin Lakes Regional Medical Center before being taken to University of Louisville Hospital by EMS.

Gossett suffered minor injuries and refused treatment at the scene.
