Thursday night at approximately 7:10, a Tar Hill man shot himself as Grayson County Sheriff’s Deputies attempted to serve him with a warrant.

The warrant was being served in the 6900 block of Salt River Road on the man who had been indicted in July by the Grayson County Grand Jury for theft by failure to make required disposition, and being a persistent felony offender. The indictment accuses the man of taking $3,655 from a homeowner to replace her roof and do other repairs when he “intentionally failed to make the required disposition of said property.”

It’s unclear at this point if the warrant being served on Thursday night was related to that indictment, or was the result of a separate incident.

After the man shot himself, EMS was immediately dispatched to the scene and a medical helicopter summoned, but the man died before he could be airlifted to a trauma center. He was pronounced dead at the scene by the Grayson County Coroner’s Office.

The decedent previously pled guilty in 2014 in Jefferson County for being paid for home improvement work and not finishing the job. According to the Kentucky Attorney General’s Office, the man “entered into contracts to perform repair services on the homes of two Louisville victims. However, after the victims paid, (he) never returned to complete the work.”

In that case, prosecutors recommended a three-year probated prison sentence on the condition that the man pay $6,450 in restitution to the victims.

Local law enforcement was on the scene Thursday night until nearly 11:00 investigating the shooting incident.
