Henderson visits Clarkson City Commission meeting

New Grayson County Judge-Executive Kevin Henderson was in attendance at the Clarkson City Commission meeting on Monday night as he told Commissioners that county government will help the city in any way it can.

Henderson told Commissioners and Mayor Bonnie Henderson that he “just wanted to let you all know that anything we can do for you … we want to be a little more transparent with you guys, and also (the governments of) Caneyville and Leitchfield.”

Commissioners offered their appreciation to Henderson for the recent filling of several potholes in the city, and thanked him for attending.

Clarkson FD to have roof replaced

Only one bid was received to install a new roof on the aging Clarkson Fire Department. That bid, for just over $15,500, and was approved by Commissioners pending approval of a “few” Clarkson Fire Department members with construction backgrounds.

In other fire department news, Clarkson Fire Chief Andy Cain said his department is actively looking for a new command vehicle, which will be paid for out of voluntary fire dues, and will soon begin searching for a new engine truck.

Trick or Treat time set

Commissioners set this year’s Trick or Treat time at 5:00 until 8:00 on Halloween night (Tuesday).

Of course, Commissioners and Mayor Bonnie Henderson will hand out candy at City Hall during the event.

Trademark discussion

Clarkson Commissioners agreed to move forward with the trademark of phrases associated with the annual Clarkson Honeyfest, at an approximate cost of $2,300.

Select Commissioners will meet with the Honeyfest Committee to determine which phrase (or phrases) the group would like to see trademarked.

The move is being undertaken because vendors have been selling Honeyfest t-shirts, hats and other items without the city benefiting financially from the sales.

Red Ribbon Week

Commissioners proclaimed October 22 through 28 Red Ribbon Week.

Beginning in 1985, Red Ribbon Week has served as a catalyst to mobilize communities to educate youth and encourage participation in drug prevention activities. The event will be celebrated by city and county officials at 10:00 a.m. on October 23 at the Grayson County Judicial Center.
