A University of Louisville professor has died after a hiking trip in Wyoming’s Bighorn Mountains.

Reports say 62-year-old Carol Hanchette was found by Johnson County Sheriff’s Deputies on Tuesday morning. She was reportedly separated from her hiking partner on Saturday. She later left her camp, apparently to seek help, and was hiking out of the area in a snow storm.

Her cause of death was found to be hypothermia.

Hanchette was a professor of geosciences at UofL.
