A teenage mother in Lincoln County is facing charges after abusing her infant child.

Kentucky State Police said that in January, a four-month-old baby was taken to University of Kentucky Medical Center where doctors discovered the baby had broken ribs. A doctor’s report contended the injuries were intentional, saying the baby’s injuries were inflicted and non-accidental trauma.

After several months of investigation, police concluded that the child’s mother, 19-year-old Kaitlin Adams, of Crab Orchard, as well as the child’s juvenile father were responsible for the abuse, according to multiple media reports.

Adams was arrested on Thursday and charged with criminal abuse of a child 12 or under, a class C felony, punishable by five to 10 years in prison. Charges against the juvenile father are sealed due to his age.

Adams was lodged in the Lincoln County Regional Jail but has since posted bond.
