Monday afternoon at approximately 4:30, the Grayson County Sheriff’s Office, Caneyville Fire Department and EMS responded to the 94 mile marker of eastbound Western Kentucky Parkway on the report of a single-vehicle accident involving a semi-truck.

Upon arriving at the scene, Deputies Taylor Logsdon and Mark Newman found that a westbound semi, being driven by 61-year-old Jamey G. Reynolds, of Madisonville, had left the roadway, struck a guardrail and traveled underneath the Hwy 79 overpass on an embankment.

After traveling underneath the overpass, and scraping the support beams, the semi hit another guardrail before reentering the roadway. The tractor trailer, which was empty, then crossed the westbound lanes and median before crossing the eastbound lanes and striking a guardrail and embankment head-on.

The vehicle came to rest with the trailer portion of the semi completely blocking both eastbound lanes.

Reynolds was pronounced dead at the scene by Grayson County Coroner Joe Brad Hudson.

Reynolds’ body was transported by the Grayson County Coroner’s Office to the State Medical Examiner’s Office for autopsy. While not official, it appears as if Reynolds may have suffered a medical-related event prior to the accident.

The eastbound lanes of the parkway were closed for about four-and-a-half hours, as traffic was re-routed off the parkway at Caneyville. Motorists wishing to continue eastbound were directed to the eastbound on-ramp.

Kentucky Transportation Cabinet workers assisted at the scene.

The semi-truck is owned by Page Transportation, out of Weedsport, New York.
