On Friday, the Clarkson City Commission approved the purchase of an engine truck for the Clarkson Fire Department.

The 1997 Pierce engine truck was purchased for $45,000, with Clarkson FD voluntary fire membership dues and the city of Clarkson splitting the cost of the much-needed vehicle. Including about $5,000 in improvements to the truck (front end alignment, replace bulbs), as well as a pump test, Clarkson FD and the city of Clarkson will borrow $50,000 over five years at 4.5 percent interest. The Bank of Clarkson will carry the note.

“Thanks to the Clarkson City Commission, Mayor Bonnie Henderson and all the dues paying members of the Clarkson fire protection area,” Clarkson Fire Chief Andy Cain said. “This truck, for years to come, will improve the service that the Clarkson Fire Department provides to the community.”

The truck, which the Upton Fire Department was also interested in purchasing, will replace the department’s 37-year-old engine truck.

The truck was purchased from the Jackson Fire Department, in Breathitt County.
