Sunday night at approximately 8:15, the Leitchfield Fire Department responded to 65 Patterson Road, in Eveleigh, on the report of a house fire.

Upon arriving at the scene, firefighters found a wood frame home nearly fully engulfed in flames, with a neighbor, berating firefighters that they arrived too late, and telling them that “his kids” were inside the home. Upon hearing this, Captain Roy Hack and fireman Blake Schroerlucke risked their lives to enter the burning structure, followed quickly by fireman Colby Hack and Fire Chief Tim Duvall. A search of the burning home revealed no children, though, as firemen later learned the neighbor was talking about his dogs, one of which was found deceased inside the residence.

A large turnout of LFD firefighters battled the blaze for nearly half-an-hour before extinguishing the fire. The house, with the exception of one room, was a total loss.

Chief Duvall wasn’t certain where or how the fire began, but the right side of the house appeared to suffer the most damage, and fire personnel pulled a space heater from that side of the home.

The home’s residents were not home at the time of the fire. There were no injuries reported and LFD cleared the scene at 9:50.
