At Tuesday afternoon’s Grayson County Fiscal Court meeting, Magistrates voted to accept an architectural and engineering services bid related to the $11.2 million addition to the Grayson County Detention Center (GCDC).

After receiving bid presentations from four companies earlier this month, and after carefully studying each bid, Jailer Jason Woosley recommended accepting the lowest bid of $555,520 presented by DLZ Corporation, based in Indianapolis, Indiana.

Woosley said he had “confidence in all four architect firms,” which made accepting the lowest bid the fiscally responsible option.

The detention center addition will include 200 more beds, which will enable the female jail facility to be moved the primary GCDC campus on Shaw Station Road. Currently the jail has just over 400 beds, which are used for local, state and federal inmates.

The addition will include not only the new beds, but also a kitchen area and separate sally-port entry point for female inmates. The expansion will additionally add administration segregation cells, which are solitary confinement cells for violent or disruptive inmates.

Woosley expects the expansion to result in adding 20 to 25 new jail employees.

The Grayson County Detention Center is the only financially self-sufficient jail in the state of Kentucky.
