State Representative Dan Johnson, a Republican who represents Bullitt County, says he has no intention of resigning after being accused of sexually assaulting a 17-year-old girl.

Johnson made the announcement at Heart of Fire Church, in Louisville, where he’s the pastor, on Tuesday morning.

A woman told the Kentucky Center for Investigative reporting that when she was 17, Johnson sexually assaulted her at a 2013 New Year’s Eve party at Johnson’s home. The woman said she was asleep in the basement with one of Johnson’s daughters when an intoxicated Johnson allegedly came downstairs and touched her inappropriately.

Johnson said the woman’s story has no merit, and Louisville Metro Police never moved forward with the case.

The girl in question was a member of his Heart of Fire Church, and told the Kentucky Center for Investigative Reporting she was a close friend of Johnson’s daughter and thought of him like a second dad.

Johnson’s run for Kentucky’s 49th District was filled with controversy after he compared then-President Barack Obama and Michelle Obama to monkeys, placing the Obama’s faces on the bodies of monkeys in a Facebook post. He also posted derogatory statements about Muslims on his Facebook page. According to media reports, Johnson has also been questioned regarding two arson cases.
