Uda Pharis, 83, of Leitchfield, passed away Sunday, December 31st , 2017 at the Greenview Hospital in Bowling Green.

He was born on Tuesday, December 18 th , 1934 in Welches Creek, the son of the late Oda and Elberta (Taylor) Pharis. He was the devoted husband of Melba “Jerry” Pharis for nearly 59 years.

Uda was a contractor and owner of Southwest Builders. He built KFC’s, other fast food restaurants and custom built homes. He was the former owner of Subway in Leitchfield. Uda was the first Grayson County Band Booster President which he served for eleven years. He was ordained as a deacon of the general Baptist faith on September 9 th , 1967. He served the Wilson Home General Baptist Church and Leitchfield First General Baptist Church for over fifty years.

Uda was also a veteran of the United States Army and served in Hamburg, Germany as a cook.

Uda is survived by his wife, Melba “Jerry” (Cooper) Pharis; three sons, Kevin Pharis (Dana) of Leitchfield, Johnny Pharis (Dana) of Caneyville and Jason Pharis of Leitchfield; two daughters, Dinah Haney (Rick) of Eau Claire and Kayla Pharis of Leitchfield, MI; three sisters, Emogene Byers of Shepherdsville; Virginia Findley of Welches Creek and Ruthie Ingram (Ballard) of Louisville; thirteen grandchildren, Sonja Frakes (Joel), Tracey Krueger (Justin), Meghan Hogan (Chad), Jessica Pharis, Wesley Carwile, Jordan Carwile, Jayme Pharis, Hannah Keown (Casey), Maddie Stewart, Tristan Pharis, Taylor Pharis, Jaclyn Pharis and Peyton Pharis; nine great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. Other than his parents, he is preceded in death by four brothers, Carl, Carmon, Wilmert and Hearl and one grandson, Jerrad Pharis.

Funeral services will be Thursday, January 4 th at 12:00 Noon at the Watson and Hunt Funeral Home in Leitchfield. Bro Mickey Coats, Bro Gary Beatty and Bro JoJo Watson will be officiating. Burial will be in the Chapel Union Cemetery.

8:00 pm, Wednesday from 10:00 am to 8:00 pm and Thursday from 10:00 am until
time of service.
