Thursday morning at approximately 9:15, Kentucky State Police was notified by the Owensboro Police Department of an officer-involved shooting.

Kentucky State Police said the preliminary investigation revealed that 31-year-old Owensboro police officer Jennifer Haynes attempted to stop a vehicle suspected in crimes in Owensboro and the Reo, Indiana area. The vehicle attempted to flee from Haynes but crashed into a Jeep Cherokee in the 2000 block of Old Henderson Road.

The suspect, 46-year-old Edward A. Warriner, of Hawesville, then fled the area on foot and ran behind the ACME Heating & Air building.

Haynes exited her patrol car and gave chase when Warriner gained entry into an ACME company van, driving the van at Haynes as he fled, with Haynes forced to jump out of the way of the vehicle, police said. Haynes fired two shots at Warriner, which authorities said struck the van but not Warriner.

Although Warriner was able to leave ACME property, he was apprehended a short time later by Owensboro police.

Warriner was charged with attempted murder of a police officer, robbery, receiving stolen property, fleeing or evading police, and theft by unlawful taking, among other charges.

He’s being held in the Daviess County Detention Center on two bonds totaling $1 million.
