At Thursday night’s Leitchfield Utilities Commission meeting, Larry Cann, of Cann-Tech, the engineering firm overseeing the construction of the new Water Plant, told commissioners his company is ready to submit its plans for the capital project to the Division of Water.

Cann said Division of Water has 45 days to respond and once the plans are approved, Cann said his company will be prepared to bid the project. Cann said he would like to have a contractor in place by “late spring or early summer,” with construction beginning before the end of 2018.

2016-2017 audit report presented

Jeff Carter, of Taylor, Polson & Company, presented the 2016-2017 audit report to commissioners, which found the utility to be in sound financial shape.

In his report, Carter said Leitchfield Utilities generated $5.91 million in revenue for the year ending June 1, 2017 and expenditures of $6.07 million.

Although the utility suffered a loss (due mostly to a mild winter), its net position stands at $19.8 million.

The utility has $28.8 million in assets.

Carter said there were no issues found in the utilities accounting practices, and praised Leitchfield Utilities Finance Officer Kimberly Sowders for doing such a thorough and professional job.
