On Friday night at approximately 7:55, Grayson County Deputy Sheriff Dylan Bohn responded to a domestic violence call on Betty Lane, in Leitchfield.

Deputy Bohn’s preliminary investigation revealed that 44-year-old Charles A. Piehl, of Leitchfield, had assaulted his wife after an argument over him cutting pieces of cake too large for everyone, according to Grayson County Sheriff Norman Chaffins. When Piehl’s son intervened, the suspect allegedly assaulted him as well.

When Deputy Bohn arrived at the residence, Piehl refused to comply with commands to place his hands on his head; instead, Piehl began to light a cigarette, according to Sheriff Chaffins.

Piehl was administered one cycle from Deputy Bohn’s Taser, Sheriff Chaffins said, but Piehl continued to resist and kicked Deputy Bohn twice in the chest, dislodging his body camera.

Piehl was eventually placed in cuffs and transported to Twin Lakes Regional Medical Center for medical clearance.

He was arrested and charged with assault of a police officer, domestic violence assault, endangering the welfare of a minor, menacing, resisting arrest, and disorderly conduct. Piehl was lodged in the Grayson County Detention Center.
