Grayson County Sheriff Norman Chaffins has released his office’s activity report for the month of January.

Sheriff Chaffins reports that:

  • The GCSO attempted to serve approximately 329 court papers, and of the 329 attempts, 140 were served.
  • Deputies wrote 64 citations, opened 18 criminal cases and made 56 criminal arrests.
  • In lieu of traffic citations, deputies issued 16 courtesy notices, conducted over 61 vehicle inspections and assisted 26 motorists on Grayson County’s roads.
  • The GCSO removed five drunk drivers from the roadway and answered over 625 calls for service.
  • Deputies conducted approximately 37 extra patrol requests and were involved in over 15 special details or programs.
  • The sheriff’s office investigated 45 car crashes.

Chaffins says beware of scams

Sheriff Chaffins said, “The GCSO continues to receive multiple complaints of phone/money scams throughout our county. If you receive a phone call, email, or request from someone offering you money or requesting your credit card or bank account numbers, hang up or delete it and report it immediately.”

Sheriff Chaffins said to please know that the bogus call or email is likely coming from a foreign country, and is virtually impossible to track.

He recommends contacting one’s bank or financial institution immediately if a scam has been perpetrated. Then, contact the sheriff’s office, and they will provide the paperwork to file with one’s financial institution.

Traffic safety checkpoints will continue to be utilized

For February and the rest of 2018, Sheriff Chaffins said GCSO Deputies, Kentucky State Police, the Leitchfield Police Department and other agencies will continue to patrol and conduct traffic safety checkpoints at approved Grayson County locations.
