On Tuesday, Kentucky State Police charged a 14-year-old Breckinridge County boy with attempted murder.

Tuesday morning at approximately 10:05, state police received a call from the Hardinsburg Police Department requesting assistance with an investigation at Breckinridge County Middle School.

School administrators, acting on information and “familiarity with the 14-year-old,” searched the student when he came into the building at the beginning of the school day, according to Kentucky State Police. A large knife was found in the juvenile’s belongings, at which time the Hardinsburg police was immediately called.

Authorities said upon further investigation by school administrators and state police, the juvenile admitted that he intended to use the knife to stab other students.

He was taken into custody and charged with attempted murder, with the court ordering him to be held in juvenile detention until a hearing date can be set.

The investigation is ongoing by KSP Detective Adam Hutchison.
