On Saturday night at approximately 7:35, the Grayson County Sheriff’s Office arrested two people while looking to serve a third person with an arrest warrant.

Deputies arrived at an apartment on Sunrise Drive in Leitchfield in an attempt to serve an arrest warrant on a suspect issued by Grayson County District Court for failure to report to jail.

When Deputies Dylan Bohn, Fred Norder and Mark Newman arrived at the apartment they were asked if they had a warrant, with deputies telling 19-year-old Nicholas M. Sauer, of Leitchfield, that they were in possession of a warrant.

Deputy Bohn, while speaking with Sauer, immediately noticed the odor of burnt marijuana coming from inside the residence.  After entering the apartment and searching for the suspect, Deputy Bohn also noticed a pill bottle in plain view in one of the bedrooms. Police said the bottle had no label, and contained several white pills, later identified as hydrocodone, according to the Grayson County Sheriff’s Office. Also in the bottle was a small amount of marijuana.

Sauer told the deputies that he purchased the pills illegally.

While speaking to Sauer, his mother called the residence at which times Deputies Norder and Newman advised Sauer to tell her NOT to come to the residence.

A short time later, Sauer’s mother and her boyfriend, 44-year old Allan M. Sheckles Jr., of Big Clifty, arrived at the apartment.  Sheckles refused commands to step out of the apartment so that the deputies could conduct their business, and after continuing to comply, he was “taken to the ground by the GCSO deputies” and arrested, according to authorities.

Sheckles was charged with menacing, resisting arrest and obstruction/interference with an officer.

Sauer was arrested and charged with possession of a controlled substance (opiates), possession of marijuana and having a prescription controlled substance not in its proper container.

The original person deputiews were looking for was not located in the residence.  Both Sauer and Sheckles were lodged in the Grayson County Detention Center. Sheckles, though, is no longer listed as an inmate.

The person deputies were searching for was not located in the residence.
