At Monday night’s Leitchfield City Council meeting, council members heard an update on the progress being made at the new ball park complex at Beville Park.

Presenting the update was new Leitchfield Parks and Recreation Director Greg Hudson, who offered the council the following report:

Electrical – Electrical contractors will complete wiring work for the complex this week, including running wires to the light poles, and security cameras will be installed.

HVAC – HVAC work has recently included moving the HVAC unit from the top of the concession stand roof to the ground, with Leitchfield Public Works repairing the roof after the HVAC relocation – The reason for moving the HVAC unit from the roof was the excessive cost of bringing the unit up to code, which will cost half as much if the unit is on the ground, according to Mayor William Thomason.

Fencing – Fencing work continues as the weather allows (the fence is set in concrete, work which cannot be done in rain).

Dugouts – Public Works has the material for the dugout roofs and will begin constructing the roofs this week.

Concession stand – Public Works has cleaned the floors and will apply apoxy this week. Concession stand equipment will be ordered this week for installation after work on the floor is complete.

Field prep – Sod will be laid and a complete final grade of the fields will be done as weather allows.

The target date to for contractors to complete work is March 1. At that time, Public Works will complete a final checklist of items before turning the fields over to Parks and Recreation on March 20. The final cost of the complex is yet to be determined, but should check in between $1.5 and $2.0 million, paid for primarily through bond measures.

In a unanimous 5-0 vote (Councilman Rick Embry was not present), and after a recommendation by Mayor Thomason, the ball park complex will be named Leitchfield Sports Complex.
