The Grayson County Historical Society will host an afternoon with Mark Twain at the Jack Thomas House on March 10.

Hardin County resident Monie Matthews will portray writer Samuel Clemens, aka “Mark Twain.” He will reveal insight into Clemens’ connections to Kentucky as well as his adventures in the Civil War.

Matthews is a lifelong resident of West Point, Kentucky, according to the Historical Society, where he now resides with his wife of 27-years, Becky.

West Point is home to Ft. Duffield, and earthen Civil War fort perched high upon the hill overlooking both the Salt and Ohio Rivers. It is here that Matthews is the curator and president of the West Point Ky. Museum, and where he works diligently on the preservation of Ft. Duffield, according to the Historical Society.

Matthews is a retired elementary school teacher and is employed as a full-time Church of Christ preacher. He graduated from Elizabethtown High School and Elizabethtown Community College, and he earned his teaching degree from the University of Louisville.

The Grayson County Historical Society invites everyone to the historic Jack Thomas House, on Saturday, March 10 at 2:00 for this entertaining and educational presentation.

The event will take approximately one hour, and refreshments will be served afterwards.
