A Mercer County teenager has been convicted of killing his classmate.

Trent Easterling, who was 16-years-old at the time of the murder, was found guilty on Wednesday of murdering 17-year-old Tristan Cole in April 2016.

Jury deliberations took more than three hours after the prosecution said Easterling admitted to relatives that he was the only one involved in Cole’s murder, according to multiple media reports.

Two other students were charged with tampering with evidence after they helped hide and sell a gun believed to have been the murder weapon.

Easterling faces 20 years to life in prison at formal sentencing. The jury recommended he serve a 30 year sentence.
