Clarkson, Lawler, Caneyville, and Clarkson Elementary Schools place in top two in district Governor’s Cup competition

This year, Grayson County elementary schools competed in two different Governors Cup academic competition districts, with all of the schools producing great results and many students earning individual accolades.

District 26

Clarkson Elementary took first overall in District 26, while placing second in Quick Recall and third in Future Problem Solving (FPS). Lawler Elementary was a close second overall, won Quick Recall and came in second in FPS.

Individual award winners

Clarkson individual awards went to Sydney Powell (3rd) and Will Johnson (5th) in Math; Bode Mangan (2nd) and Levi Rogers, (5th) in Science; Will Johnson (1st) and Levi Rogers (4th) in Social Studies; Samuel Clemons (5th) in Language Arts; Araya Moore (2nd) and Addam Welsh (3rd) in Art and Humanities; Railey Mattingly (1st), Tate Cain (3rd) and Piper Mangan (5th) in Composition.

The team is coached by Julie Decker and Felicia Higdon.

Lawler individual awards went to Houston Brook (1st) and Landon Lowrey (3rd) in Math; Cooper Lee (1st) and Braeden Sadler (3rd) in Science; Greyson Chaffins (2nd) and Landon Haycraft (3rd) in Social Studies; Elli Hester placed 2nd in Language Arts.

Lawler coaches are Joe Kolter and Bobbie Jo Noblett.

District 27

In District 27, Caneyville Elementary emerged the overall winner after placing second in Quick Recall and third in FPS. Wilkey Elementary came in second overall after winning Quick Recall and placing second in FPS.

Caneyville individual awards went to Aidon Jones (3rd) and Kierson Chambers (5th) in Math; Eldon Williams (1st) and Sami Woosley (3rd) in Science; Brandon Lindsey (1st), Sami Woosley (2nd) and Britney Decker (5th) in Social Studies; Brandon Lindsey (1st),  Eldon Williams (t4th) and Caroline Hodges (t4th) in Language Arts; Carly Ashley (1st) and Chloe Strasburger (t2nd) in Arts and Humanities; Scout Cannon (1st), Carly Ashley (3rd) and Kierson Chambers (5th) in Composition

The team is coached by Brittany Allen and Laura Grant.

Wilkey individual awards went to Landon Franich (1st) and Kenny Dao (2nd) in Mathematics;

Daniel Ratley (2nd) and Landon Franich (4th) in Science; Merri Ellen Bratcher (3rd) in Social Studies; Isabel Blanton (2nd) and Norea Watson (3rd) in Language Arts; Kenny Dao (5th) in Arts and Humanities; Isabel Blanton (2nd) and Kierson Chambers (5th) in Composition.

Wilkey is coached by Amanda Clark and Andrea King.
