An Elizabethtown woman has been arrested after admitting to causing severe physical trauma to an eight-month-old infant.

Kentucky State Police said 23-year-old Jacy Mattingly was serving as a babysitter for the infant when she caused “the worst blunt force trauma in an infant” that Hardin Memorial Hospital (HMH) workers have seen, according to multiple media reports.

When police arrived at the hospital, authorities learned the infant sustained severe trauma to her head and had fingernail marks on other parts of her body. The baby also had deep bruising around her face and mouth.

Mattingly was arrested late Tuesday night and lodged in the Hardin County Detention Center where she’s been charged with first-degree criminal abuse.
