On Sunday night at approximately 10:30, after receiving a report of a stolen vehicle Kentucky State Police observed the vehicle, a Honda CRV, driving on 2nd Street in Owensboro.

Police attempted to initiate a traffic stop, but the vehicle fled. Authorities pursued the stolen car for about six miles when the driver, 34-year-old Richard Light, of Owensboro, failed to see standing water in a roadway.

While trying to drive through the flood waters, the Honda became inoperable, according to police.

Light was arrested and charged with receiving stolen property, two counts of wanton endangerment, fleeing or evading police, and reckless driving, along with several other violations.

A passenger in the car, 36-year-old Lauren Laroche, of Owensboro, had a failure to appear/pay fines warrant and was taken into custody.

Both were lodged in the Daviess County Detention Center.
