Virginia Mae Burres, age 89, of Leitchfield, KY, passed away Friday, (March 16, 2018) at her home.
She was born on October 7, 1928, in Marrowbone, KY in Cumberland County. She was the daughter of the late Norris and Opal Huddleston Garmon.
She was an avid UK basketball fan, and enjoyed watching all sports, including tennis and baseball. She loved to read, loved her Bible, and especially loved her two daughters. She loved pets and playing BINGO. She was a good person, was very forgiving, and was a voice for those less fortunate or in need of help. Her work was her main hobby. She began working for the KY Department for Human Resources in 1954, and retired in 1988. In 1947 she graduated from Martha Norris Memorial High School, and graduated from Western Kentucky University (Western State College at the time) in 1952. She was a member of Clearview Baptist Church.
She is survived by her daughters, Lee Ann Glenn (Bart) and Beth Alvey (Brent) all of Leitchfield; grandchildren, Christopher Alvey of Dallas, Ashley Wise (Derrick) of Versailles, Bobby Glenn of Denver, CO, and Cody Glenn (Natalie) of Mayfield; and great grandchildren, Piper James Wise and Evie Wise.
Other than her parents, she was preceded in death by her brother and sister-in-law Richard (Dick) and Bettye Watkins.
Funeral services will be at 12:00 p.m. (noon) Tuesday, (March 20, 2018) at the Dermitt Funeral Home in Leitchfield. Bro. Chester Shartzer will be officiating. Burial will be in the Fairview Cemetery.
Visitation will be at the Dermitt Funeral Home from 3:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Monday and from 9:00 a.m. Tuesday until time of services.
