On Friday afternoon at approximately 4:45, the Grayson County Sheriff’s Office responded to the Cabinet for Health and Family Services on the report of a missing child.

Deputy Fred Norder learned through an investigation that 23-year-old Nicole Norsworthy, of Leitchfield, had a child that died of unknown causes on March 9. The investigation also showed that the cabinet petitioned the court requesting that Norsworthy’s one-and-a-half-year-old child be placed in the custody of the state. That request was granted.

At some point after the court’s ruling, Norsworthy — who was granted permission to leave the state — knowingly took her child out of state against the court’s orders. Norsworthy and her baby, though, were located in Reno, Nevada, according to authorities.

Norsworthy was taken into custody by local authorities and a custodial interference warrant out of Grayson County was served. The child was placed in the custody of Washoe County Child Protective Services.

Norsworthy is awaiting extradition to Kentucky. The investigation is ongoing.
