On Saturday afternoon at approximately 4:30, the Grayson County Sheriff’s Office, East Grayson Fire Department and EMS responded to 8900 Elizabethtown Road on the report of a single-vehicle accident.

Upon Deputy Taylor Logsdon arriving at the scene, he found that a Chevrolet Impala, being driven by 69-year-old Charles Welling, of Leitchfield, had left Elizabethtown Road as Welling traveled west. The Malibu, which left no skid marks on the roadway, entered a deep ditch and traveled about 250 feet before striking a low-lying embankment and driving over a culvert catch basin.

Welling, who complained of back pain and labored breathing, was transported to Twin Lakes Regional Medical Center by EMS.

During Deputy Logsdon’s investigation, he observed what appeared to be methamphetamine and marijuana on a seat in the car.

Welling was cited for DUI, possession of a controlled substance (methamphetamine) and possession of marijuana.
