According to the calendar, it’s Spring, but according to the weather, I have no idea what season it is. All the ups and downs of the temps have me in a funk and dying for 70 degree weather where I can get outside and work in my flower bed, which, Special Kayla Fun Fact, is actually my all time favorite thing to do.

So, as I sat at my desk today and dreamed about the days when I get to unload and spread mulch, break up ground, and clear out all the weeds from my flower bed (sounds like torture to some, but it is my therapy), I started thinking about what other hobbies I could take on until the weather makes up its mind. Here are some things that I thought would be interesting. Enjoy!

  •  Furniture refinishing: I refinished a desk last Summer and it was so much fun! Just getting to see a piece of furniture change and take on a whole new life and persona. I am always in awe of those people who can take shabby pieces and transform them into such glamorous items. Start with something small like a side-table or chair and then move on to more challenging choices, such as dressers!

  •  Baking: Get creative in the kitchen by either making up your own recipes or watching those super cool recipe videos and putting your own spin on it. This hobby is fun for SO many reasons! From the artistic vibes you get to put in to your designs to the delicious treat you’ve made, taking on this hobby is a win-win for everyone!

  •  Bird watching: Nature is amazing and God’s creatures are such a gift and if you are one that likes quieter and more relaxed hobbies, I definitely recommend trying out bird watching. It’s a way to be out in nature, but at a slower pace that you get to manage. Go in a group or just spend some time alone, it’s all about enjoying yourself and doing what makes you feel the best.

  •  Running or jogging: We’ve all been told exercising releasing endorphins and endorphins can make us feel unstoppable. So, if you are looking to pick up a new hobby, but get in shape at the same time, try running or jogging on trails. The changing scenery will keep things from getting dull and the fresh air is always so good for the soul.

  •  Painting: One of my ultimate life goals is to sit on the second-story balcony of my home and paint the sunrise like Allie from The Notebook, but unfortunately, I do not have an artistic bone in my body. But I still encourage you to try your hand with painting because you may find a secret talent that you never knew you had. And if you need the extra help, I’m sure you can pull up some Bob Ross tutorials on Facebook!

  •   Sewing: A timeless skill that is LACKING hands to perform it. Not only can you help out all your family and friends that will need your awesome expertise, but I have been told by many people that sewing is extremely therapeutic. Plus, seeing your work progress and knowing you made it all yourself is such a fulfilling reward.

  •  Hiking: Maybe considered just a step from running and jogging, hiking can offer so many benefits to us. Get out in nature and you can literally, and metaphorically, conquer mountains. Making hiking your hobby of choice will guarantee you lots of time to think and work toward your goals…plus a promised view at the end.

  •  Traveling: I don’t necessarily mean just taking a Spring Break vacation or visiting the beach on an annual basis, but more along the lines of constantly taking trips to new places and creating amazing memories, which could lead to a secondary hobby, like scrap booking!

  •  Photography: Ah, capturing life’s most magical moments, who wouldn’t want to be doing that? If you don’t feel fully committed to the thoughts of adopting photography as a hobby, start with simple equipment, such as just your phone, and as you get more into it, work toward expanding your collection. It’s all about what makes you happy and proud…hobbies are hobbies, not work.

  •  Journaling: Keep a diary. Put together a food journal of your favorite recipes. Start writing down your dreams and see how you feel each day. This hobby is all about YOU and your thoughts, so let your pen go where your imagination guides you.

  •   Gardening or landscaping: I’m still including gardening in my list because with this hobby, you can go as simple or extravagant as you please. Start with a few flowers in pots on the porch and then move to a full-on flower bed. The best part about this hobby is seeing your hard work pay off as all your beautiful flowers bloom! I am really excited about starting a flower bed in my backyard this spring. Anyone have any advice for this?

I have dabbled in each of these and I really enjoy journaling and baking, and I would love to do more travelling. Do you have a favorite hobby that didn’t make the list? Tell me about it in the comments below!

Until next time.
