Saturday night at 8:45, Clarkson Police Chief Buck Meredith executed a traffic stop on West Main Street on a vehicle with expired tags.

Upon making contact with the driver, 49-year-old William E. Downs, of Clarkson, Chief Meredith searched Downs’ 2001 Ford pickup truck and located a “measurable amount of methamphetamine.”

Downs was arrested and lodged in the Grayson County Detention Center where he’s been charged with possession of a controlled substance (meth, his second such offense) and driving with expired tags.

According to the Kentucky Department of Corrections, Downs is on parole until 2034 after being convicted in 2010 in Grayson County for manufacturing meth, possession of a controlled substance (meth), possessing anhydrous ammonia with the intent to manufacture meth, and possession of a handgun by a convicted felon.
