A northern Kentucky woman who admitted to being distracted by her cellphone before hitting and killing two toddlers and their grandfather has been sentenced to over seven years in prison.

A Boone County Circuit Court Judge sentenced 25-year-old Jessica Hood on Monday to seven-and-a-half years in prison, according to media reports.

Hood was accused of killing 49-year-old Charles Napier and his twin 13-month-old grandchildren, Sean and Samantha May, as he pulled them in a wagon in Florence, in northern Kentucky.

Hood, who was 22 at the time of the accident, pled guilty last month to manslaughter and assault in the 2015 crash that also injured the toddlers’ mother and another child.

She told the court she was looking at her cellphone while trying to plug in an auxiliary cord and change the music player from a CD to her cellphone.
