State police investigating after man dies following arrest in northern Kentucky; report says man ingested ‘white powder’

Kentucky State Police is investigating after a 29-year-old man died immediately after being taken into custody by the Covington Police Department.

Authorities said the death happened Tuesday morning during a traffic stop involving four occupants. At some point, officers arrested 29-year-old Robert Ennis, of Cincinnati.

The circumstances surrounding Ennis’ death remain unclear. But according to WNKY.com, at one point an officer told dispatchers, “He shoved a bunch of white powder in his mouth and he’s choking on it.”

State police is emphasizing that no firearms were discharged during the incident.
