David “Lefty” Keith Tarrance, 57, passed away Tuesday, May 8, 2018 at Norton Hospital Louisville, Kentucky. He was born May 6, 1961 in Louisville, KY to Kendol and Lorene Burden Tarrance.

After graduating from Grayson County High School, he married his wife of 38 years, Anna Sue Beatty Tarrance, on July 26, 1979. For many years he worked in construction alongside his dad, Kendol. After a period of time, he decided to follow his true passions, teaching and history. He worked relentlessly full time as a custodian at Caneyville Elementary while going to school full time to achieve his dream of becoming a middle grade educator.

He graduated from Western Kentucky University, May 1998, receiving his Bachelor Degree in Education. His passion for history didn’t begin or end in the classroom; he also re-enacted the Civil War for many years, a world he was introduced to by long time friend, Johann Batchelder. From the first event as a spectator, he knew this was something he wanted to do alongside his wife and children.

Along with history, he also enjoyed his free time reading, shooting the breeze on the CB radio, researching family ancestry and most recently, surprising people with his antics on social media. He wrote a book on the Tarrance family history and this accomplishment is one that brought him great pride. Nothing made him happier than pulling a practical joke on his loved ones, especially his girls, or telling the best “Dad” jokes to anyone he saw. He was a man that loved the Lord and knew there was a better home waiting for him.

He is preceded in death by his mother, Lorene Tarrance and both sets of grandparents.

David is survived by his father, Kendol (E-Sue) Tarrance, wife, Sue Tarrance, three daughters, Amanda (Jake) DiGiacomo, Jennifer (Aaron) Franklin, and Jessie Tarrance, all of Caneyville; and two of his closest friends, Andy Perrin of Morgantown, KY and James Oller of Harrogate, TN. He also left behind numerous aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces, nephews and dear friends.

Services will be held Sunday, May 13, 2018 at 2:00 in the Chapel of Dermitt-Joyce Funeral Home. Burial will follow in Bates Cemetery.

Visitation will be held Saturday, May 12, 2018 from 4 to 8pm and again Sunday, May 13, 2018, at 11:00 until 2:00 at Dermitt-Joyce Funeral Home.
