The Grayson County Sheriff’s Office is now accepting applications for kids ages eight to 11 to attend the Kentucky Sheriff’s Boys and Girls Ranch in Gilbertsville.

Grayson County boys ages eight to 11 will attend June 10 through June 15, while the girls will attend June 17 through June 22.

“The purpose of the Sheriff’s Ranch is to provide Kentucky youth with a safe, recreational and educational atmosphere so that the child can grow mentally and socially in a camp setting,” Sheriff Norman Chaffins said. “The kids will do swimming, water safety, arts and crafts, play sports, and much more. They will have educational programs, cookouts, and make new friends.”

Any parent or guardian who has a child ages eight to 11 who wishes to attend is asked to stop by the Grayson County Sheriff’s Office any time Monday through Friday from 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. and pick up an application.

Sheriff Chaffins said he can only take five boys and five girls, and will be filled on a first come first serve basis.

The camp is free to all kids who attend. However, the camp does have a wish list of items that any citizen may donate (* most important items needed):

Disposable cups (6-8 oz.), bath soap,*waterproof sunscreen (50 and 100 SPF), plastic/vinyl gloves (medium and large), all size batteries, plastic forks/spoons, trash bags (30 gal.), shampoo/conditioner, Pine-Sol, *children’s cough medicine, *antibiotic ointment, cough drops, first aid tape for bandages, *dixie cups, *dishwashing liquid, disinfectant spray, paper towels, divided styrofoam plates, contractor trash bags (50 gal.), cleaning supplies, *children’s pain reliever, *sore throat /cough relief, *anti-itch cream, masking/duct tape, bandages (larger size ACE).

“If any Grayson County citizen can donate any of the listed items they are asked to bring those items into the GC Sheriff’s Office so that we can take them to the Ranch,” Sheriff Chaffins said. “Any donation is greatly appreciated.”
