I am still young enough that I remember the days of summer vacation and how antsy we all got to get out of the classroom and outside enjoying the amazing days of sunshine. For a while, we were non-stop energetic beings full of wonder and always ready for the next adventure, but soon enough we would get bored and start to long for just something different to do, and when we got to the point of desperation we would start begging to go back to school.

So, for all you out there who will be spending lots of time with your kiddos as they are out of school, here are 9 DIY activities to keep the outdoor summer fun going all the way until the end of August. Each photo is linked to a Pinterest tutorial, so if you are looking to learn more, just click the photo and enjoy!

  • Water Balloon Fights: An easy and fun way to cool down this summer. I can vividly remember the worrying of being found in your secret hiding place only to prevail victorious when I was dubbed the last gal standing. Sweet sweet victory!

  • Make-It-Yourself Water Slide: A a lot plastic garbage bags or a tarp, a water hose, a hill, some yard stakes, and bam- homemade water slide!!

  • Shaving Cream Foam Fights: Chill a can of shaving cream and then take a new spin on water balloon fights. Foam fights are 10x messier, so 10x more fun, right?

  • Create Giant Bubbles: Use a kiddy pool as your bubble mix container and invest in some jumbo bubble wands and let the afternoon take flight with these massively amazing bubbles.

  • Super Sprinkler using a 2 Liter Bottle: I remember when I was a kid, there was nothing I liked more than playing in a sprinker in the yard, but they would NEVER last more than like a day before they starting springing leaks. Take a cheaper route by punching holes in a 2 liter and then connecting the water hose to the bottle. This is such a cool alternative!

  • Pool Noodle Ring Toss: Invest in some pool noodles, glue a few together to make them self-supportive, and add the swimming rings to create your own fun game of ring toss.

  • Sponge Bomb War: This was a totally new concept to me. Apparently, you can cut sponges up and connect them into a pom-pom shape, which you then submerge in water to get them good and soaked and then THROW them at your buddies. How fun is this!

  • Backyard Obstacle Course: This is an easy one for parents to put together for their kiddos. Just set up a little challenge course, use things from around the house as your obstacles. Not only will this be fun, but if I had to guess it will end in a good long nap time.

  • Making Homemade Ice Cream: While this isn’t necessarily an exclusively outdoor activity, it wouldn’t hurt to keep it outside where it will be less messy, and everyone can really get into the creative mode. Plus, I couldn’t leave it off the list- it’s a Summer Classic!

Seriously, set up the obstacle course and the water slide and I’ll meet you there. This list of fun activities is guaranteed to provide some awesome experiences for your family and create long lasting cherished memories. What are some of your favorite Summer memories? Until next time.
