Herbert Ray Swift, age 82, of Leitchfield, Kentucky passed away Friday, June 8, 2018 at University of Louisville Hospital surrounded by his wife, all seven of his children, many grandchildren, and several other family members. He was born on August 19, 1935 in Spring Lick, Kentucky, the son of the late Obie Ray Swift and the late Berthel Boone Swift.
After serving in and receiving an honorable discharge from both the Air National Guard and the United States Air Force, he worked as a boilermaker for 27 years until retiring in 1995. He loved God, family, and music more than anything else. He was a member of the Masonic Lodge # 236. He attended Potter’s Hope Church in Leitchfield.
He is survived by his loving wife of 63 years, Patsy Edwards Swift and seven children: Darlene Embry (Joffery) of Morgantown, Ky; Diane Manning (Greg) of Leitchfield, Ky; Darrell Swift (Brenda) of Lexington, Ky; Dwane Swift of Louisville, Ky; David Swift (Elizabeth) of Lebanon, Ohio; Tim Swift (Myra) of Leitchfield, Ky; and Tammy Swift-Roy (Joe) of Rowlett, Texas. He is also survived by thirteen grandchildren: Vanessa Pullen (Aaron) of McQuady, Ky; Joseph Embry (Samantha) of Caneyville, Ky; Darrell Swift II (Jennifer) of Lexington, Ky; Courtney Swift of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania; Brittany Martz (Matt) of Lexington, Ky; Benjamin, Christian, Aaron, and Bella Swift, all of Lebanon, Ohio; Dillon and Mallory Swift, both of Leitchfield, Ky; Darin Pearce (Rachel) of Fate, Texas; and Whitni Hinojosa (Chase) of Wylie, Texas. Seven great grandchildren, one brother, Phillip Swift (Faye) of Tompkinsville, Ky, one sister, Charlotte Brooks (Raymond) of Louisville, Ky, and one sister-in-law, Ann Swift of Louisville, Ky also survive.
Other than his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, Rubert Swift of Louisville, Ky.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, June 13, 2018 at Dermitt Funeral Home in Leitchfield. Bro. Wayne Clemons will be officiating. Burial will be in the Shady Grove Cemetery in Falls of Rough, Ky.
Visitation will be at the Dermitt Funeral Home from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. on Monday, from 11:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m. Tuesday and from 9:00 a.m. Wednesday until time of services.
A Masonic Service will be held at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday, June 12, 2018.
