Police have arrested the daughter and son-in-law of a woman found dead Tuesday morning near the Clay/Laurel County line.

The Laurel County Sheriff’s Office said the body of 58-year-old Sherry Rose, of Corbin, was found early Tuesday morning “in a state of decomposition.” Rose had been reported missing by worried co-workers on Monday when she failed to show up for work.

Police said during an investigation, authorities learned that there had been a physical altercation on Friday afternoon at the victim’s residence, about four miles north of Corbin. The dispute was between Rose, her daughter, Christie McFadden, and son-in-law, Joseph McFadden. Rose was fatally stabbed during the fight.

The McFadden’s then purchased mops, bleach and ammonia to clean up the crime scene, police said. After cleaning the crime scene, the suspects placed Rose’s body in a suitcase and transported her in the trunk of her car to a rural location in Laurel County, where two other individuals, 48-year-old Michael Hinkle and 24-year-old Cody Hinkle, helped dispose of the body by tossing it over an embankment.

The McFadden’s also used Rose’s debit card to steal $500 from her account at an ATM.

Authorities arrested and charged 31-year-old Joseph McFadden, of Corbin, with murder, two counts of tampering with physical evidence, theft by unlawful taking ($500 or more), abuse of a corpse, and fleeing or evading police. Christie McFadden, 28, of Corbin, was charged with complicity to commit murder, tampering with physical evidence, theft by unlawful taking ($500 or more), abuse of a corpse, and fleeing or evading police.

The two Hinkle suspects, both of London, were charged with tampering with physical evidence and abuse of a corpse.

All four were lodged in the Laurel County Detention Center. The McFaddens are being held on $250,000 bonds.
