Don’t Let the Summer Heat Beat Your Plants

Blazing sun and dry conditions can be problematic for your spring blooms, so take extra special care of them this summer by following these helpful tips:

  • Water Well and Fully: Don’t just sprinkle the tops of your plants with water, make sure the water is reaching the roots- where it is most needed.
  • Provide Sunlight, but Not Too Much: Yes, plants need the sun to survive, but make sure they are not burning to a crisp under the harsh rays.
  • Don’t Fertilize in the Summertime: The summer can cause stressful conditions for plants and fertilizing can make things significantly worse.
  • Listen to Your Plants: Your plants will tell you when they are thirsty or too hot, learn to recognize the symptoms and signs of  need in your plants.

Let’s Talk Firework Safety:

As we welcome the official start of summer and begin prepping for Fourth of July, it is important to remember that fireworks are fun, but also potentially dangerous. Take extra precautions this season and speak with your family about how to stay out of danger. Here are a few tips to follow to keep your loved ones safe:

  • Know and be fully aware of your local firework laws and ordinances.
  • Read all instructions thoroughly before attempting to shoot off any type of firework.
  • Wear protective gear, such as safety googles when lighting the fireworks.
  • Never consume alcohol while lighting fireworks.
  • Do not attempt to light a “dud” firework.

Health Tip!

Be on the lookout for hidden sugars. If an ingredient end with the word “syrup”, there is a good chance it is using some sort of artificial sweetener.

Take Extra Care of Your Vehicle this Season!

We frequently think of wintertime taking its toll on our vehicles, but may overlook the problems that can be caused by high summer temps. Keep your car running smooth with these important measures:

  • Keep your battery clean of corrosion and build-up that can form in the hot hot months of the summer.
  • Properly check tire inflation levels to ensure all are correct. Under-inflated tires can lead to your vehicle overheating and breaking down.
  • Get a car check-up to ensure that all fluid levels are up to snuff and will keep your car functioning in a safe fashion.
  • Know the coolant levels of your engine.
  • Knowing and maintaining a comfortable interior environment for the car will increase driver alertness and reduce fatigue.
