A Laurel County woman is behind bars after ramming her husband’s vehicle with her car, and assaulting a deputy jailer.

The Laurel County Sheriff’s Office said that early Monday morning 53-year-old Deidre M. May, of London, intentionally struck her husband’s vehicle, while he was in the car, on Keavy Road about two miles south of London.

Upon arriving at the scene, deputies repeatedly asked May to put the vehicle in park and exit the car, but she initially refused. When she did finally exit the vehicle, May was “unsteady on her feet and had a strong odor of an alcoholic beverage about her person,” according to the Laurel County Sheriff’s Office.

Upon being placed under arrest, May pulled away from deputies and began yelling and screaming, with a struggle between May and deputies ensuing.

Once at the Laurel County Detention Center, police said May slapped and kicked a deputy jailer, resulting in officials using pepper spray on May multiple times in an attempt to gain compliance.

May was charged with wanton endangerment, fourth-degree assault (domestic violence), third-degree assault (of a corrections employee), resisting arrest, and DUI. She is being held on a $20,000 bond.
