Grayson County jobless rate down from last year

Kentucky’s seasonally adjusted preliminary June jobless rate was 4.2 percent, according to the Kentucky Center for Statistics, with unemployment rates falling in 115 Kentucky counties between June 2017 and June 2018.

The preliminary June 2018 jobless rate was down 0.9 percent from the 5.1 percent recorded in June 2017. The unemployment rate for June 2018 was slightly up from May’s 4.1 percent, though.

Woodford County sported the state’s lowest unemployment rate at 3.6 percent, followed closely by Shelby County at 3.7 percent.

The state’s highest jobless rate, 14.9 percent, was recorded in Magoffin County. The next highest was the 9.8 percent in Elliott County.

Grayson County’s jobless rate checked in at 5.2 in June, up .9 percent over May’s 4.3 percent, but down a full point from June 2017.

Neighboring Breckinridge (5.4), Butler (5.3), Edmonson (5.8), Ohio (6.9), and Meade Counties (5.4) posted higher jobless rates than Grayson County in June 2018. Hart County, though, posted a 4.4 unemployment rate, lowest of the seven counties — All seven counties posted higher jobless rates in June than they did in May.
