(Leitchfield, KY) – The Grayson County Retired Teachers’ Association met at the GC Board of Education building August 10th.  Outgoing President Glenda Goff introduced guest speaker Chris Fuller who spoke about the Christian-based physical therapy services provided by his company.  Next Grayson County Middle School counselor, Amber Phillips, and GCMS Cougar Zone director Jessica Kiper, explained the GCMS after-school program which involves a new mentorship program connecting community members with students for one-on-one interaction leading to Community Service Projects.  All retired teachers are encouraged to contact GCMS to share their educational talents as well as any hobbies or interests they can offer a couple of hours a month or so.

GCRTA members need to keep up with their volunteer hours of any community or church activities they participate in for our membership goals in the state association.  The GCMS Mentorship program would be a great way to accomplish volunteer time.

New officers for 2018-2019 were installed by outgoing president Glenda Goff.  New GCRTA officers are:  Co-Presidents- Linda French and Jenice Bratcher; Vice-President- Carolyn Thomason;  Secretary/Publicity – Karen Taylor; Treasurer – Carol Webb; Legislation/Insurance- Alfreda Weedman; Membership – Pat Hackley.

The annual AARP Grandparent Essay contest coordinator is Theresa Basham.  Each elementary school will be encouraged to have students write an essay to be judged within the school, then the district with the Grayson County winner advancing to the KRTA  Fourth District and perhaps onto the state and national level.

Annual dues of $10 are now due and can be paid at the October meeting.  .The next meeting of the GC Retired Teachers’ Association will be FRIDAY, OCTOBER 12th at 10 a.m. at the GC BOE Building.  All retired teachers are invited to attend.
