The Kentucky Transportation Cabinet announced a major repaving project on I-65.

Cabinet spokesman Chris Jessie said preparation for the resurfacing project is currently underway in Barren, Edmonson and Warren Counties. The resurfacing of the roadway is expected to begin on September 4 and be completed by late November, depending on the weather.

The project will result in the entire interstate, in both directions, being resurfaced between mile markers 35 and 44. Jessie said the paving work will be done between 7 p.m. and 7 a.m.

“When resurfacing begins, it is very important for motorists to slow down and be alert when approaching the construction zone,” Jessie said. ”The interstate will be down to one lane during the overnight hours while resurfacing is taking place.”

A traffic is likely to become congested well in advance of the lane merging for the lane closures, Jessie noted, so please use extreme caution and watch for slowed or stopped traffic ahead.

Law enforcement will be on-site during the nighttime lane closures for the duration of the project, according to Jessie.
