In a post on his personal Facebook page, Grayson County Sheriff Norman Chaffins said the GCSO Lip Sync Challenge video will be released Thursday morning.

“A couple of things we would like you to keep in mind,” Chaffins wrote in his post. “No part of this video interfered with any of our ongoing investigations. All time from our deputies, or other officers that participated, were strictly voluntary. We are not actors or performers. We are police officers taking a break from our regular duties and doing our part in raising money for Shop with a Cop.”

Chaffins agreed to make the video after dozens (if not more) police departments around the nation participated in the challenge, but more importantly, the sheriff approved making the video after Grayson County citizens donated over $5,500 for Shop with a Cop.

“We have discovered in our job that you can have a sense of humor and still make a positive impact in someone’s life,” Chaffins said, before adding a message directed at law enforcement personnel who don’t agree that cops should be making music videos, saying, “For those officers, deputies, or troopers who wish to criticize your comrades for doing one, then don’t watch it. Remember, we raised over $5,500 for underprivileged families for Christmas as a result of this video, and we had a blast doing it.”

Chaffins said he thinks the public’s response to the video “will be overwhelmingly positive.”

“Thanks again to everyone that made this possible, either by donating or having a hand in producing it,” Chaffins stated. “Thanks to (local photographer) Sam Embry and (local videographer) Bob Maze for volunteering many, many hours of their time in production. And thanks to Jimmy Mattingly, who has the same name as Garth Brooks’ fiddle player (because he is Garth Brooks’ fiddle player) for giving back to his community.”

The video was made to the tune of Montgomery Gentry’s country hit, My Hometown. Look for it on K105.com, as it should appear on the K105 website (and Facebook page) at some point during the day.
