Playing at a much higher rev-rate than the homestanding Grayson County Cougars, the Ohio County Eagle soccer team dominated play from the start and went on to a 6-0 defeat of the Cougars.

The Eagles possessed the ball the majority of the time and seemed to leave the Cougars standing at times. They beat the Cougars to nearly every 50/50 ball and were moving at top speed when they received accurate passes from teammates. Many times the Cougars were caught standing, waiting for passes to come to them, only to see an Eagle zip by and take the ball away.

Despite the Ohio County dominance, the game was scoreless until the 32nd minute of action, when senior Jason Burgess sent a long pass beautifully into the 8-yard box, where Christian Galindo was waiting to head the ball past Cougar goalkeeper, Brady Whobrey, to make it 1-0. The Eagles took that slim lead into the halftime intermission.

The Cougars committed a dreadful mistake in the 55th minute in the second half. Gaining possession of the ball in his own end, the midfielder dropped a pass back toward the Cougar goal, just outside the penalty area. In a situation where two defenders and Whobrey thought one of the others would take the ball, none did, allowing Eagle senior Steven Myers to take the ball and fire it into the empty net to make it 2-0.

Two minutes later, junior Diego Garcia took a direct free kick from about 30 yards out and sent a rocket past Whobrey to make it 3-0.

A foul in the penalty area in the 68th minute gave the Eagles a penalty kick and sophomore Jonathan Young converted to make it 4-0.

Garcia scored again in the 76th minute to make it 5-0, and a Cougar handball call in the 78th minute set up senior Chris Goff for a penalty kick and the final goal of the game.

The Cougars fell to 0-3 on the season with the loss. They were scheduled to travel to Owensboro for a tilt against the Apollo Eagles on Monday.
