The Leitchfield Water Treatment Plant project has taken another step forward as Leitchfield Utilities Chairman Robert Crawford announced at Thursday night’s utilities meeting that approval had been received from United States Rural Development to advertise for bids for the capital project.

The bid opening date has been scheduled for November 15 at 2:00 at Leitchfield City Hall. Utilities Attorney David Vickery said it would take engineers from Cann-Tech Engineering, the firm overseeing the project, about 90 days to evaluate the bids.

The new water treatment plant will be built adjacent to the current plant at 3245 Lewis School Road. The current plant was built in 1968.

The project is expected to cost about $8 million, with a $2.4 million grant and $5.6 million loan funding the work.
