Hardin Co. man charged with manslaughter, DUI after hitting and killing bike rider

Thursday morning at approximately 3:50, Kentucky State Police responded to the intersection of Hwy 31-W and Bullion Boulevard, about five miles north of Radcliff, on the report of a vehicle versus bicycle accident.

Kentucky State Police spokesman Scott Sharp said the preliminary investigation revealed 58-year-old Brian D. Casey, of Rineyville, was traveling south on Hwy 31-W when he struck 24-year-old Charles Montgomery, of Louisville, who was riding a bicycle in the southbound emergency lane of 31-W.

After striking Montgomery, Casey continued driving south before stopping on Preston Street in Radcliff.

Montgomery was pronounced dead at the scene by the Hardin County Coroner’s Office.

Casey was transported to Hardin Memorial Hospital for treatment of non-life threatening injuries and later charged with DUI, second-degree manslaughter and leaving the scene of the accident/ failure to render aid with death or serious physical injury.

Casey was lodged in the Hardin County Detention Center where he’s being held on a $50,000 bond.
