At a special called meeting of the Leitchfield City Council on Friday afternoon, the council approved the second and final reading of an ordinance setting the 2018-2019 tax rates.

On the recommendation of the Budget Committee (Kelly Stevenson, Margaret Fey, Margie Decker), council members voted to implement a four-percent revenue increase.

The real property tax rate will be 13.3 percent, and projects to supply $355,637 to the city, while the personal property rate will be 17.61 percent, projected to raise $128,212. Combined, the 2018 real and personal tax rates will provide the city with $49,098 more revenue than 2017.

In 2017, the real property tax rate was 12.2 percent while the personal property rate was 19.72 percent.

The motor vehicle tax rate will remain 12.0 percent.

Rezoning requests approved

Council members also gave final approval for three rezoning requests. They are as follows:

  • At the request of William R. Swift, lots 22, 23, 24, and 25 of Johnson Acres Subdivision on Johnson Way were rezoned from R-2 (single-family medium density) to R-5 (multi-family).
  • At the request of Leonard and Tonya Hill, 517 Lilac Road was rezoned from R-2 to C-1 (highway commercial).
  • At the request of George and Judy Hack, lots 17 and 18 on Cassidy Lane were rezoned from R-2 to C-1.

All three requests were previously approved by the Leitchfield Planning Commission.

New playground equipment for Beville Park

Tammee Saltsman, Assistant Parks and Recreation Director, asked for and received approval to advertise for bids for playground equipment for Beville Park.

The special called meeting was convened because of a lack of a quorum anticipated for the first Monday in October, the body’s regular meeting date.
