After nearly a week of searching, the body of a Texas police officer who drowned on Tuesday at Lake Cumberland has been recovered.

Authorities found 61-year-old Robin Adair, who was a sergeant in the Rhome (TX) Police Department, Sunday evening at about 5:30, according to WKYT.com. Adair drowned near Wolf Creek Dam where the water is between 120 and 170 feet deep, complicating recovery efforts. He went underwater as he swam near his rented houseboat.

Adair was in law enforcement for 25 years, spending the past nine years in Rhome.

“He was one of the guys that never met a stranger,” Rhome Police Chief Sam Love told the Wise County Messenger. “He liked everyone he met and was always upbeat and happy. It’ll leave a big gap in the community. It’ll be hard to find someone to fill his shoes.”
